Ray of Light E.L. Todd | DOC

E.L. Todd

I’ve often been told I’m not a picky reader and that’s the reason I mostly give 4 and 5 star ratings. Nothing could be further from the truth. I try choose my books carefully because a) who wants to read something they don’t enjoy and b) who wants to write about it knowing that someone put some real effort into creating the book and that a bad review could affect their livelihood.

So if you didn’t figure it out with my two star rating you probably did with my previous ramblings. I had read E.L. Todd’s books before and felt the plots had potential, but I ultimately stopped because I wasn’t keen on the writing and characterization. Reading through the reviews I thought I might take another chance, the blurb looked interesting but even though I’m in the minority I honestly can’t rate this one higher.

The initial set up for the story was very confusing. Were there two guys talking raging at each other? I was put off by this initial back and forth. Upon getting to know the main characters, I found them inconsistent and in need of better development. I disliked how they behaved and talked throughout the book. The plot was almost nonexistent. It was mostly sex with the major plot twist being that of love triangle that didn’t even get exposed much less resolved because the book ends with a sort of cliffhanger. It could also use stronger copy editing.

I couldn’t relate with the attraction between Rae and Ryker and how the playboy magically decided to be a monogamous, serious relationship kind of guy while Rae fought against it. The sexy times were plentiful but lacked chemistry.

I was also rubbed the wrong way having two major subplots. Rae’s and her brother’s, and while it’s an interesting twist to have the heroine’s point of view and that of her brother’s instead of the hero’s, Rex’s takes attention from what I would have considered the main story.

I will say that Rae has a [email protected]$$ job. Really, that alone bumped the rating from one star to two. She’s a researcher for a recycling company whose job was to decrease the amount of waste being deposited in landfills by creating products that are either recyclable or biodegradable. What an awesome thing to do! I would read the entire trilogy just to see if she comes up with anything interesting.

Ray of Light is book #1 in the Ray series by E.L. Todd. It is a contemporary romance. Told from two points of view, the heroine and her brother’s, and ends with a cliffhanger.

i couldn’t relate with the attraction between rae and ryker and how the playboy magically decided to be a monogamous, serious relationship kind of guy while rae fought against it. the sexy times were plentiful but lacked chemistry.

i was also rubbed the wrong way having two major subplots. rae’s and her brother’s, and while it’s an interesting twist to have the heroine’s point of view and that of her brother’s instead of the hero’s, rex’s takes attention from what i would have considered the main story.

i will say that rae has a [email protected]$$ job. really, that alone bumped the rating from one star to two. she’s a researcher for a recycling company whose job was to decrease the amount of waste being deposited in landfills by creating products that are either recyclable or biodegradable. what an awesome thing to do! i would read the entire trilogy just to see if she comes up with anything interesting.

ray of light is book #1 in the ray series by e.l. todd. it is a contemporary romance. told from two points of view, the heroine and her brother’s, and ends with a cliffhanger.
